Areas of design

Hello, here are summaries in each of the following areas giving suggestions and ideas of what we are looking for

Make up- Just a heads up this is also being tied in with making the masks. So its pretty much anything to do with the face. Look at the colors of the birds, some groups in the culture represent certain birds. Each main character represents one so look at colors for that. You will also be dealing with the Masquerade make-up which let me remind you. the boys will have more bright colors than the girls. Also here you'll be looking at the masks that they wear for the dance. So you'll have to work with the "Hair department" to coordinate this. For any further ideas or questions please contact Sterling or myself.

Costumes - we are looking for lots of cloth, even many shirts and pants torn up and put together in a creative way. Look how other cultures use cloth. Also this is a very organic and bird related culture, give me something creative like burnt strawberries made into a necklace or something. Or like some sort of cloth wrapped around his leg with feathers. There are 3 points in the story that deal with significant costuming. 1. everyone in their day-to-day clothes. This can be a simple basic creative layer. 2. The ceremony/blooming, anything to do with peacocks or birds again a lot of feathers. mostly the peacock though since it is the symbol of this ceremony. 3. the Masquerade, which is going to be the dance where the boys are going to be more colorful than the girls, but the girls are the ones with the big feathers. The costume team will work on the main roles costumes, which are the most important right now, with Amani. If you have any more questions contact her or myself

Hair - Linsey will be working with hair. I need creativity here as well. We looked at a lot of weird Japanese hair styles. I like the random strands of hair that poke out everywhere, I like the punk like mohawk, cause it almost looks like a cockatoo. Put feathers in their hair, and some interesting colors Anything that symbolizes for birds will work. Linsey has a lot of pictures, if you have ideas or questions contact her or myself.

Props set - Look for interesting things to hang from the trees. We talked about lots of twigs making a lantern with feathers. Also something that hangs from a tree that they can pick seeds or pastachios (sorry for spelling) off of like birds would. Kate will have a list of significant props that we'll need to keep an eye open for. For further questions contact her or myself.

Thank you for the help, still gather everyone you can. We will be going to the Tracy Aviary for the actors once it gets warmer, but I highly suggest everyone involved coming along to see the behavior of the birds and for inspiration. If you have any interesting ideas your welcome to post pictures and comments, for the first few weeks we are just looking at our options and designing. Thanks again :)
